This Project

The 2016 sea ice measurements and near real time data feeds are part of the Far from Frozen - Antarctica and Us project, led by the Otago Museum, and funded through the Unlocking Curious Minds contestable fund.

Far from Frozen aims to demonstrate the importance of Antarctica in driving Earth's systems and the resultant impact on New Zealand's climate and sea-level. Award winning filmmaker Anthony Powell has been filming the sea ice probe through its deployment and operation, and this footage will eventually be shown at the Otago Museum and through Far from Frozen visits to rural communities using virtual reality platforms.

Through to November 2016, this project is collecting and displaying sea ice temperature profiles and satellite information on Antarctic sea ice.
